Kep overview

What was once the pride of Cambodian beach towns is now one of the country's best kept secrets. Up until the reign of Pol Pot and his merry men, Kep was the go to destination for French colonists and the Cambodian elite. This status didn't survive the reign of the Khmer Rouge, but now Kep, along with the rest of Cambodia, is enjoying a renaissance of sorts, and many of the villas and hotels that were destroyed are starting to reappear. Translation: hurry up and get there before this becomes an overdeveloped tourist trap, which is inevitable given its proximity to Vietnam, as well as its beautiful mangrove beaches. Kep gives travellers the opportunity to see some of the more beautiful beaches and national parks in the country without the crowds. If you can get to Kep now you'll be able to brag how you knew it when it was still quaint.
