Phnom Penh overview

The French who conquered Phnom Penh would be devastated to know their hard work is being replaced by Americans who are toting hotels instead of guns. The capital of Cambodia is on the verge of something, what this may be is still uncertain, but rapid economic development has led to a lot of foreign investment in hotels, restaurants and bars that are threatening to turn Phnom Penh into a real metropolis. All of this change has led to Phnom Penh being one of the most interesting cities in the world when it comes to architecture, food, and culture. Wat Phnom, the Royal Palace, the National Museum, and Independence Monument will all testify to the city's strangeness as well as its diversity. Many people choose to skip Phnom Penh and head straight to the temples of Angkor Wat, which is fine, as long as you don't mind missing out on a truly unique city.
